Our Company Trident Energy Services, Inc. is an energy consulting and engineering firm that provides energy consulting, energy engineering and project management services to a variety of clients. The company was founded in 1999 and is based in Longmont, Colorado.
John Canfield, President and Owner John has worked for over 25 years in the energy field as a consultant and engineer. John has performed detailed energy audits of over 100 million square feet including military bases, federal and state facilities, city and county facilities, university campuses, industrial plants/sites, hospitals, K-12 school districts, and commercial offices.
John has been a consultant under contract to the Colorado Governor’s Office of Energy Management for seven years. Other state clients include Wyoming and New Mexico.
John co-founded Highland Energy Group, a national Energy Service Company, in 1990 and founded Trident Energy Group as sole proprietor in 1999. John brings a unique perspective in working with clients with his background as a high school teacher, presenter, co-founder and Vice President of a national energy service company, energy manager for the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Facilities Management Department, solar system designer and installer, and current owner of an energy engineering firm.
John has a Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado in building energy engineering, is a Certified Energy Manager, and a Certified Lighting Professional. More details: Resumé

Joan Gregerson, Sr. Associate Engineer Joan has over 20 years experience in the field of building energy efficiency. Her experience includes residential and commercial sectors, with expertise in energy modeling, research and writing, training, analysis and project management. Joan has worked with state agencies, higher education and school districts to incorporate high performance design into new buildings and to use performance contracting to complete comprehensive improvements in existing buildings.
Joan has worked as a consultant and engineer for the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office, Fort Collins Utilities, Johnson Controls, Architectural Energy Corporation and E Source. Joan is a LEED Accredited Professional and has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colorado in electrical engineering.
